Groombridge Road

Hackney, 2023

This full renovation and extension of this five storey property within the Well Street Common Conservation Area in Hackney in London bridges the original character of the Victorian property and the contemporary needs of its residents. The ground and first floor rear elevation contemporary glazed interventions open up towards the garden and the common beyond.

The previous conservatory-type extension was excessively glazed, it was not fit for purpose nor energy efficient. It is replaced by the new high performance brick extension with Crittall glazing to the garden and a biodiverse green roof. The first floor study is flooded with light and views towards Well Street Common to the rear with a large seamless glazed corner window. The upper levels have been reconfigured to accommodate a luxurious master suite including a walk-in dresser and ensuite bathroom, a ‘kids floor’ with separate bathroom and a guest suite within a loft conversion. Additionally, the basement accommodates a cosy cinema room which connects to the main reception spaces on the ground floor.
